Rideau is once again raising the recognition industry bar by answering the need for companies to reduce their carbon footprint to net zero.
Montreal and New York City.
April 4, 2011.
Rideau Recognition Solutions, today announced that it has been awarded CarbonNeutral® company certification by measuring and reducing its carbon footprint to net zero. Rideau is the first multinational company in its industry to achieve CarbonNeutral® certification, a primary consideration for companies who are managing the climate change compliance of their supply chains and provider partners. This impressive industry first has further differentiated Rideau from all others and establishes Rideau as an organization committed to reducing emissions on an on-going b asis thus fortifying their position as the recognition industry leader in environmental and sustainable practices.
"Carbon neutrality" is becoming an important company and product differentiator in many markets," said Dirk Olin Editorial Director of Corporate Responsibility Magazine, publishers of the famous 100 Best Corporate Citizens List."Leading providers of services, products and technologies in nearly every industry segment have realized that environmental responsibility is very important to larger corporate buyers. To date, carbon neutral status has only been achieved by 1/3 of one percent of North American companies over 100 employees."
Achieving CarbonNeutral® company certification means that Rideau can now add real value to its clients by reducing the emissions associated with their supply chain.
"Since environmental sustainability is such an important cornerstone of RBC’s strategy, we applaud efforts of valued members of our supply chain such as Rideau in accomplishing significant milestones in their own sustainability initiatives," said Steve Richardson, Manager, Recognition Programs, CB National Office, Royal Bank of Canada.
To achieve CarbonNeutral® company certification, Rideau worked with The CarbonNeutral Company, a world leading provider of carbon reductions solutions, to measure and reduce its carbon footprint to net zero. All the emissions relating to Rideau, including energy consumption, waste and third party shipments, were quantified and then reduced through a combination of internal changes and carbon offsetting. This means that for every unavoidable tonne of carbon generated by Rideau’s operations, a tonne of carbon is prevented from entering the atmosphere by supporting the development of renewable energy and clean technology projects in Brazil, China, Thailand and Turkey.
"To us, the social conditions and the environment are closely linked; a commitment to the environment is a commitment to both society as a whole and the individuals who constitute it," said Peter Hart, CEO at Rideau Recognition Solutions."Since 2007, Rideau has continuously extended its environmental stewardship. In recent years, we developed a successful internal recycling program, improved energy efficiency on our premises and engaged employees in our environmental initiatives. Also, we have recently become a Bronze Sponsor for Tree Canada. Becoming CarbonNeutral® was the natural next step to our environmental commitment."
By aligning their carbon management and overall sustainability initiatives with their overall company objectives, Rideau has shown a powerful company-wide ‘beyond compliance’ commitment to leadership on climate.
"Through our CarbonNeutral® certification, we support emission reduction projects which have social benefits to the local population. An example of this is the Aydin Geothermal Energy Project in Turkey which not only generates renewable power but has created jobs, upgraded local infrastructure and improved facilities at the local primary school," said Valerie Duchesneau, Rideau’s Environmental Projects Coordinator.
