Honoring Ecological Economics Greats: USSEE Fellows Program

Over the past year, the United States Society for Ecological Economics (USSEE) has been diligently working on a new initiative—the USSEE Fellows program. This program aims to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to ecological economics and the USSEE community.

  3. Herman Daly: A trailblazer in ecological economics, Daly advocated for a steady-state economy and sustainable development.
  4. Rachel Carson: Carson’s groundbreaking book “Silent Spring” sparked the modern environmental movement, emphasizing the need for conservation and awareness.

Inaugurating USSEE Fellows

Now, it’s time to celebrate the living legends—the inaugural members of the USSEE Fellows program:

  1. John Gowdy: A distinguished scholar, Gowdy’s work bridges economics, ecology, and social justice. His commitment to interdisciplinary research has enriched ecological economics globally.
  2. Richard Norgaard: Norgaard’s expertise lies in ecological economics, environmental policy, and sustainable development. His contributions have influenced both academia and policy-making.
  3. Karin Limburg: Limburg’s research focuses on aquatic ecosystems, fisheries, and ecosystem services. Her dedication to advancing ecological understanding has left an indelible mark.

A Bright Future

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Gowdy, Norgaard, and Limburg. Their years of dedication and service have elevated ecological economics, both nationally and internationally. Without their tireless efforts, our field would not be where it stands today.

As part of this prestigious award, the USSEE will make a contribution in their names to an environmental organization of their choosing. It’s a fitting tribute to their legacy and commitment to a sustainable future.
