My name is Christine Corlet Walker, and I’m a research fellow at the Centre for the Understanding of Sustainable Prosperity, University of Surrey. I’m an interdisciplinary researcher specialising in post-growth economics, welfare policy, and social care. My research looks at how we can build resilient welfare systems that meet the needs of all within the planet’s means.

I spent my PhD working with feminist economists, policymakers, and care practitioners across the social care sector to understand better how our social care systems are structurally dependent on economic growth and what we can do to change that.

I am running for the ISEE board because I would like to support the ISEE in sharing its members’ work with broad audiences across public and policy spheres.

I have worked extensively with a range of media outlets, including the Guardian, Fortune, and BBC News, among others, and advised on BBC Panorama’s Crisis in Care series. I have also shared my research with politicians and policymakers at the European Commission, the Welsh Government, and the UK’s cross-party parliamentary group on Limits to Growth.

Further, as a member of the International Care-Centred Societies Commission, I hope to strengthen the ISEE’s focus on care and the care economy, bridging the work of feminist scholars and pioneering care organisations with that of ecological economists.
