2024-2025 Board
Lina Brand Correa
Affiliation: Assistant Professor, Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change, York University
I am an Assistant Professor at York University’s Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change, where I am teaching ecological economics at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
I have been a member of the ISEE Board for the past two years, during which I have worked on membership and finance issues. In particular, we have been successful in significantly increasing the ISEE’s (and thus Regional Society’s) membership numbers. I would like to continue working in this line, especially exploring institutional membership options and other ways to diversify ISEE and Regional Society’s income streams. Additionally, from my current position as a tenure track academic, I would like to continue to amplify the voices of students and early career researchers in a body such as the ISEE.
I will build on my experiences as a student, where I valued an increased level of diversity and pluralism in thought as I went through my BA in economics (National University of Colombia), MSc in Ecological Economics (University of Edinburgh and SRUC) and PhD (University of Leeds).
In the recent ISEE conference in Santa Marta (Colombia) I was very happy to engage with a group of students actively working to diversify undergraduate economic and natural science curriculums in Latin America. And I will also build on my experience navigating the academic world post-PhD, with all its challenges and uncertainties, in a highly interdisciplinary and heterodox field such as ecological economics, who’s scholars do not necessarily find a straightforward fit within traditional Faculties shaped around strict disciplinary boundaries.
I thank you for reading this statement and considering voting for me as a board member of the ISEE.
