ESEE, France

Zafarani Uwingabire is a Senior Lecturer in Economics at Institut Agro Dijon, specializing in Agricultural and Food Policy. With a background in economics and the agri-food chain from the University of Toulouse and agricultural economics and agribusiness from the University of Rwanda, I bring an interdisciplinary approach to my research across both continents. My work focuses on the economic and nutritional impacts of environmental and climate change on social welfare and the development of sustainable food systems.

With over ten years of experience working with public and private stakeholders, including smallholder farmers in Rwanda and France, I have spent the past two years at the French National Institute for Research on Agriculture, Food, and the Environment (INRAe), contributing to the Agroecology Joint Research Unit. My research focuses on identifying the values and evidence supporting pollinator conservation, linking ecological and economic considerations to promote sustainability. I have taught at the University of Toulouse and worked with the National Agricultural Export Development Board in Rwanda.

Throughout my career, I have been committed to improving livelihoods, particularly for vulnerable communities, and promoting social and environmental sustainability.

I am passionate about contributing to ISEE’s mission of fostering transformative change toward a more equitable and sustainable world.

I bring to the ISEE Board my analytical, creative, and cross-cultural communication skills and my dedication to advancing the integration of ecological economics in policy and practice.
