2nd Latin American Conference
on Environmental Conflicts (COLCA)
Imagining and Understanding – Challenges for Sustainable Latin American Societies
September 12-16, 2016
San José, Costa Rica
Following up on the success of the first COLCA in Argentina (2014) which summoned over 1000 participants, this is an event that seeks to open a space of trans-disciplinary discussion that allows the interaction of local actors in communities affected with socio-environmental conflicts, with civil society, academia and the scientific community. It also seeks to promote interactions with public officers and representatives from the private sector.
COLCA includes a Seminar on Latin American Environmental Thought, a Course on Political Ecology accompanied by field trips to conflictive zones. The Conference will feature a combination of presentations and discussions on selected topics in plenary sessions, along with specialized presentations and interactions in parallel sessions.
Fundación Neotrópica, the School of Biology at the University of Costa Rica, Red COLCA, the Mesoamerican and Caribbean Society for Ecological Economics and the Environmental Administrative Tribunal of the Ministry of Environment and Energy have joined their efforts in organizing this activity.
The deadline for abstract submission is Saturday, April 30, 2016. The selected presentations and posters will be notified by email. UPDATE: The deadline for submissions has been extended to May 15.
The categories for participation are:
– Oral presentations
– Posters
A technical committee will evaluate the abstracts considering the theoretical and methodological contribution; the use of specific instruments or relevance of the results of empirical research or case studies.
